From her birth, Shangxiang had been the baby, the little girl. The youngest sibling always seems to get the short straw, they always seem to be the one that isn’t big enough to play with the older kids. And from the very beginning, she was not okay with being left behind. She wasn’t content, and being told that she was too small or not strong enough was not going to slow her down one bit. So she decided. She wouldn’t be some woman, she would be a woman who was talented and respected for all kinds of things. A childish dream, admittedly, but the base morals rang true, for what pushes her forward. Thankfully, she had the means to chase her dreams, being the daughter of a distinguished commander and was trained from a young age to be an excellent fighter. Her greatest fear is to be left behind, because she couldn’t keep up, which makes her the type of person who would push themselves to the limit-and past it, to keep up.
Her father and brothers were indeed proud of her aspirations. Shangxiang is an ambitious, independent young woman who likes to do things her way, and get them done without fuss. She has a strong work ethic and lets her strong morals rule her, following what she thinks is right over what is common. She has an upbeat, optimistic outlook on life, and this is shared with everyone she encounters. She is liked by most people for her cheery personality, and her kindness and unabashed joking and friendly words are often mistaken for flirting. Adding that to her rather physical ways of communicating, she talks with her hands and has no qualms about touching other people, often grabbing people’s arms or bumping them playfully. She says she likes feeling the other person, the life, but her “forward” outlook is occasionally read the wrong way.
To say that she is serious and mature would be something of a joke. As a child, Shangxiang loved to play and make everything fun. She was proud of how she could make her father and brothers smile or laugh when they were tense, and this hasn’t left. She is a bit childish, but more to a hopeful, energetic point. She has seemingly unending energy, always willing to spread it around, and cheer people up. She loves helping in any way she can, which does worry her family, because she doesn’t seem to pay much mind to her own health and well-being. She never has a bad day, always smiling even when she is tired or disappointed or sad. She doesn’t freeze people out, but it’s rare for her to let anyone in and see her when she’s anything but happy.
Her animosity with Bao Sanniang is something that she doesn’t completely understand. The two girls are far more alike than either would like to admit. Shangxiang insists that she is more mature than Bao, but that is unlikely, she simply would like to believe that. The girls bicker constantly if they come together for any reason, and even if they don’t speak, many glares and shifty glances are shared. Bao seems to insist that Shangxiang is trying to take “her man”, Jiang Wei, from her, but Shangxiang doesn’t agree. She does find him pleasant enough, all things considered, but their relationship is hardly a close one. They are ultimately enemies, and while Shangxiang is pretty friendly to most people she meets, she doesn’t hold him as anything special in comparison to the way she interacts with all the others fighting against the Han. She is pretty friendly with all the others on her “team”, if only because of her upbeat nature, but she never forgets who she is and who they are, and tries her best not to do anything foolish just because they seem nicer than she might’ve believed. She does love taunting Bao though, about the fact that “her man” doesn’t even love her, if only because she dislikes being accused and hated by someone for such a reason.
Shangxiang isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, something she tries to prove over and over again, as she is a tough girl who is more skilled and able than her looks may lead you to believe. She is fierce and serious in battle, a stark contrast from her playful, casual mannerisms. She will never forget to gloat when she beats a man, because she’ll never get tired of proving a girl can do anything a boy can do, or better.
With her big brother on the other side and her father taken, Shangxiang is holding up surprisingly well on the outside. She misses being with her family dearly, and is hurt that her brother isn’t backing her up, covering her, with the good guys. She was always extremely close with her brothers, tagging along with them to play or train even when she was so young that she could hardly keep up. She looked up to both brothers as her idols and her inspiration, and dreams she’ll someday be as powerful as them. She went to Sun Quan for more serious questions, or to help calm her down after having some silly spat with her father or their other brother, whereas Sun Ce was the brother she spent a bit more time with, just playing around. When she learned of her brother’s death and father’s capture, for full day she was in shock, not eating, not drinking, not doing anything but drifting along like tumbleweed. Finally she snapped back into herself and decided she would fight the Han with all she had, to avenge her brother and rescue their father. When she discovered her other brother’s joining of the Han, she was shocked and hurt, as if he were spiting Quan’s memory, and wishes he would change sides and help her. She won’t let anyone stop her from doing what she wants to do right now, especially with all the fire in her belly from losing her big brother.
Shangxiang is not a girl who enjoys crying. She hates showing any type of weakness, as she yearns to constantly prove herself, and by crying she is basically shouting at everyone that she is weak and a silly little girl. So she does do her best to keep a cool façade when something particularly crushing happens. That said, she is prone to tears in times of frustrations and anger, something that bothers her greatly. She may try her hardest, if something horrid happens she’ll likely be fighting tears the whole time, torn between letting her body do what it wants and keeping up her tough exterior.
In regards to her family, Shangxiang can become a little overly protective. Despite the fact that they can quite obviously handle themselves, she always tries to help or protect them, whether it be in battle or in an argument. She has a problem of charging into someone else's fight to be all protective, which thoroughly bothers her brothers, as they've told her, but it slowly getting a bit better at letting them do what they will, if only to gain the same respect from them when she fights. It now falls only on Ce, with Quan gone, and she isn't sure how she'll react to her allies attacking her beloved and only remaining brother.

Something That I Want - Grace Potter
And the guidance of the Divine....
As tough as she acts, and as talented in battle as she is, Shangxiang DOES have her limits, and she does break. She won’t let on if she’s tired or injured, her pride won’t let her, so anyone who travels or fights with her may want to look her over before pressing on, because it’s very likely that she could be bleeding out or dead on her feet without speaking up. She also holds family very dear, and could never do anything to hurt them, which may end up hurting her in the long run if that was ever used against her. She isn’t afraid to show someone she loves or cares about them, unless it becomes something romantic, in which case she becomes rather bashful and shy, a stark contrast from her outgoing and relaxed manner.
